YOUR OPINION ON THE ATTACK ON EU STAFF AND INSTITUTIONS
Dear Colleagues,
In reaction to the financial crisis, the Member States decided to reduce the EU budget and thereby their capacity to address together the challenges.
Rather than designing appropriate counter measures based on a reinforced cooperation, they are now going further in attacking the effectiveness of the EU institutions and are about to drastically reform the working conditions of the Institutions staff.
You have already shown, through a large participation in the strike action, that you are determined to fight for your rights and for a strong Europe.
Today, we invite you to voice your opinion with the present message, as follows.
You simply need to click on the button "I agree" under the following short statement to be addressed the College currently negotiating your future.
In order to address the challenges of the current socio-economic crisis, there is a need to design an ambitious and coordinated European response.
This can only be done with effective EU institutions elaborating and implementing adapted policies supported by proportionated budgets.
A profound reform of the EU staff regulation has, as recognised by the European Parliament, already taken place in 2004 and lead to substantial reductions of the rights and benefits.
The further degradation of the staff regulation requested by some Member States would lead to less capable Institutions, with important consequences on the staff but ultimately and more importantly on the European project and therefore on all EU citizens.
In this situation we ask the College to maintain a firm position and to withdraw its proposals if the Council goes significantly beyond what the Commission has proposed.
The modification of the staff reform should not be confused with the financial efforts that have been decided by the European Council. We should indeed find ways of using carefully the resources but not to the expense of the effectiveness of the Institutions that constitutes the only structure which can offer solutions at the same scale than the problems faced. This would be economically counterproductive and not politically responsible.
