Online Training course about EU Knowledge MCQ

in EN , for AD (AST accepted)

AD Level------

Our training course dedicated to the test on knowledge about EU policies and institutions aims to get candidates enrolled to the European Commission’s AD internal competitions prepared for this preselection test.

The training course comprises four modules:

·        Module 1 sets out the purpose of the EU knowledge MCQ test, presents its format and specifies the expectations of the jury; it also provides candidates with methodological tips.

·        Module 2 lists the factual knowledge candidates need to master for this test and provides them with reading tips.

·        Module 3 proposes 4 MCQ (50 questions each) on the factual knowledge about the EU history, decision-making processes and institutions, as well as EU policies (quizzes A, B, C and D, 200 questions as a total); detailed corrections and external links are provided to help candidates deepening the answers. The questions asked are updated, of an intermediate level, with 30 "recurring" questions and 20 advanced questions.

·        Module 4 proposes 5 mock exams comprising 50 questions each (n°1 to 5, i.e. 250 questions in total). These mock exams will have to be completed within the limited time required (75 minutes). They are updated, of an advanced level of difficulty, and will mainly focus on EU policies and initiatives. They include 20 "recurring" questions and 30 advanced questions in EU policies, in order to reflect what candidates from previous editions of the EC’s internal competition have experienced last year.

Learners are encouraged to take their time to consult the links provided with each question, and to read the detailed corrections, instead of taking the MCQ all at once.

Do not do this :

• Do not write to U4U to ask if there is space before you register. You simply risk someone else registering before you. If your registration is rejected due to lack of space, you will of course be refunded.

• Do not wait for confirmation of your membership to register - if you have just joined to register for a course, register for the course straight away to secure your place.

• Do not pay your membership fee twice. If you have just completed your membership form with your IBAN, you will be debited in due course. So do not pay the membership fee twice by bank transfer (if this happens, however, you can be reimbursed).

Extract from our FAQs regarding on-line training :
It is essential for the quality of the course that your camera is switched on and running. The trainer needs to see you to assess your reactions. In principle, your camera should always be active during the course, unless otherwise instructed by the trainer, who may sometimes limit the use of the camera to specific interactions with you.
Refusing to activate the camera at the request of the trainer may lead to your expulsion from the course, without the possibility of a refund.

COURSE FOR REASONING TESTS

This course is to prepare for each of the reasoning test and multiply your chance of success to the competition. For each test, we will study the methodology illustrated by examples. We will then practice with tests which will be explained and corrected by the trainer.

We are all capable of developing these skills. It is not a question of intelligence, but of learning.

VERBAL REASONING

The verbal reasoning test is not a test of knowledge but of logic. To be successful, candidates must display four key qualities:

bulletthe ability to analyse a statement and understand the meaning of a text;
bulleta mastery of certain rules of verbal logic in order to establish whether or not an answer can be deduced from the information in the text;
bulletthe ability to identify quickly which statements are most likely to constitute the correct answer;
bulletthe ability to read a text selectively.

NUMERICAL REASONING

The numerical reasoning test is not just a test of calculation. To be successful, candidates must display three key qualities:

bulletthe ability to understand and analyse: you need to know how to read a piece of information and interpret tables and graphs in order to decide correctly what operations are needed,
bulleta mastery of basic mathematical concepts: percentages, variation rates, averages…,
bulletspeed: to answer the questions within the time allowed, you must avoid long calculations wherever possible and also avoid automatic use of the calculator.

ABSTRACT REASONING

Abstract reasoning questions are presented as series of diagrams containing geometric shapes which are repeated or modified according to a logical sequence. Candidates have to identify the underlying logic and find the diagram that completes the series.

Abstract reasoning tests call for skills that candidates do not normally use in everyday life:

bulletthe ability to visualise geometric transformations (rotations, symmetries, …),
bulletan aptitude to spot similarities between complex shapes, ...

SITUATIONAL JUDGMENT

The situational judgment test assesses the behaviour and decision-making capability of candidates in a working environment. Each question describes a work-related scenario and gives a set of four possible actions that might be taken in response. Candidates must choose the action they believe to be most effective and the action they believe to be least effective.

To succeed in this test, candidates must approach each question as a role play exercise and set aside their own professional experience. They must answer each question on the basis of the information given in the scenario and on what is expected of them in terms of competencies and good professional practice. They must be able to rank actions by using the most appropriate criteria: degree of problem resolution, degree of priority, life positions, etc.

PRIORITISING & ORGANISING TEST

The prioritising and organising test demands a rigorous and methodical approach. It includes timetabling problems (organising a journey or schedule management) and constraint optimisation problems (choosing the best possible option after taking certain constraints into account).

To succeed, you must interpret a table correctly and be able to transcribe a question in the form of an equation (timetabling problems) or a series of instructions (constraint optimisation problems).
